Red grape 🇮🇹 Piedmont, Italy

Dolcetto

/ dol-CHET-toh / · Also known as Ormeasco

Piedmont's weekday red — soft dark fruit with a bittersweet almond finish.

Despite its name (‘little sweet one’), Dolcetto makes dry wines. It ripens early, has low acidity and fairly firm tannins, and is meant to be enjoyed young. In Piedmont it's what locals open on a weeknight while Barolo waits in the cellar.
