White grape 🇪🇸 Galicia, Spain

Godello

/ go-DAY-yoh / · Also known as Gouveio

Galicia's elegant white — stone fruit, a mineral backbone and creamy texture.

Godello was close to extinction in the 1970s before growers in Valdeorras revived it. Today it's one of Spain's most exciting whites: medium-bodied with apple and stone fruit, fresh acidity and a mineral streak from slate soils. Lees ageing and oak give it a creamy richness often compared to white Burgundy.
