Red grape 🇦🇹 Klosterneuburg, Austria

Zweigelt

/ TSVY-gelt / · Also known as Rotburger, Blauer Zweigelt

Austria's most popular red — juicy cherries with a peppery twist.

Zweigelt was created in 1922 by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt, who crossed Blaufränkisch with St. Laurent. It inherited the spice of one parent and the soft, cherry fruit of the other. Today it is Austria's most planted red, making everything from light, chillable reds to richer oak-aged wines.
